Live from Music Row Tuesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. –  host Leahy welcomed the creator of the Huey Report and marketing expert, Craig Huey, in-studio to recap today’s Franklin, Tennessee candidates for the Board of Alderman elections Tuesday.
Leahy: In studio with us, the mayor of Maury County, Andy Ogles, and also Craig Huey is in with us. He’s a California refugee and mercifully came to Tennessee to help us with direct marketing. A founder of Creative Direct Marketing.
A wizard when it comes to direct marketing and emails and direct mail, but also a very committed conservative who has his eye on the ball. And here in Tennessee, you have decided we don’t want to happen to Tennessee what happened to California. And so you’re going to help us with that. There’s an election going on today in Franklin, Tennessee.
Huey: That’s right.
Leahy: For Alderman and board of Alderman. Tennvoterguide.com. You have some ratings on this. You’ve got to tell our listeners what your non-partisan analysis is of these candidates.
Huey: Exactly.
Leahy: You are on Craig. What do you think?
Huey: Michael Patrick, you know what? This election in Franklin is critical not only to people in Franklin but surrounding areas, even Tennessee because it’s really a battleground for those who are fighting for freedom. Like you said, I’m a California refugee, and we can’t see the California values here in Tennessee.
And yet, of course, that’s what the progressive left and the pro-socialists, and the secularists wanted to be able to do is transform the different towns and cities as well as the state.
Leahy:Â I got two words for people when you talk about transforming Tennessee. Two words to be careful of here. Are you ready?
Huey: Okay.
Leahy: George Soros.
Huey: Soros, yeah, lots of money.
Leahy: Lots of money.
Huey: And right now in the cities, there are well-financed left-wing groups trying to transform the cities. And we find not so much in Franklin, but we see a little bit of that. So I want to just encourage people if you know somebody in Franklin and if you live in Franklin, now is the time to get them to the poll today.
Leahy: Today is Election Day.
Huey: Election Day.
Leahy: The contested Alderman At-Large, Ward One, Ward Two, and Ward Three.
Huey: Absolutely. Let me tell you one thing, it’s critically important because on the ballot basically are raising taxes. On the ballot are raising job-killing regulations.
On the ballot is really this whole idea of a progressive socialist takeover because there are some of these types of candidates running now that very few people know about.
Leahy: So let’s start off with the At-Large. There’s an Alderman At-Large election.
Huey: And that’s an easy one. Let me say this, Michael. There are 13 candidates running. We rate them by star ratings from one to five.
Leahy: Five is really good.
Huey: Five is the best candidate.
Leahy: One is really bad.
Huey: One, terrible. Do not vote for them. Two only strategically vote for them. There’s one candidate running that’s one-star, terrible. There are three candidates running that are progressive left.
Leahy: Those are the two stars?
Huey: Those are the two stars. The one and two stars. They’re poison. And yet people do not know. People are going to be voting for them because they don’t know. So the tennvoterguide.com tells what these ratings are. And on Ward one…
Leahy: Ward one, we actually have his uncontested. Burger has five stars.
Huey: Five stars, she’s really top. And here’s the thing. We know all over the United States people might say I’m a Republican. They might say I’m a conservative. They may say I go to church, but when they get into office, they crumble. They don’t have a foundation.
They don’t have an understanding of free-market economics. They don’t have an understanding of the pressure they’re under.
And we see these candidates caving and the person you vote for or don’t vote for these Alderman races, they’re not only going to affect Franklin, but they’re also going to affect Williamson County.
They’re also going to be the ones who maybe are running for higher office. And that’s what happens. You get these candidates that cave because people haven’t looked at their background.
Leahy: Let’s take a look now. So, Bev Burgerisincumbent. Five stars, unopposed. Ward one. That looks like a no-brainer.
Huey: It is.
Leahy: Let’s go to the At-Large election. You got four candidates. Who has five stars, who has less than five stars?
Huey: Tina Pierret is the one we’re recommending.
Leahy: Which race is that?
Huey: This is Ward two.
Leahy: Ward two?
Huey: Yes.
Leahy: We’re switching to Ward two.
Huey: I’m sorry.
Leahy: Let’s start at the At-Large first.
Huey: Gabrielle Hanson gets an 80 percent five-star rating. She’s awesome. She’s a real estate broker. She understands social, political, and economic issues. She home schools her daughter. She attends Grace Church in Franklin, over in Leiper’s Fork.
I tell you, she will not cave to the pressures of liberal groups. She won’t cave to the pressures of Chamber of Commerce groups. She will do what’s right.
Leahy: You’ve got a couple of other candidates there that don’t fare so well. One, John Haynes has three stars. And then there’s a couple of two stars there. Bhavani Muvvala has two stars, and Alan Simpson has two stars. The general take on those candidates?
Huey: Yes. Well, Bhavani moved to the U.S. in 2000 from India. He goes to a liberal Church. His main thing is low cost housing, willing to transform Franklin with these taxpayer subsidies of housing. He wants to use the government to help the poor in the community. More taxes going for transfer payments.
Leahy: Not like a free market kind of guy.
Huey: No, he’s not. But he says he’s a Republican.
Leahy: I’ve never heard that before. Does anybody ever say that? (Laughter) No. Never. I’m a Republican but for all these left wing progressive policies.
Huey: Indivisible and the activist groups in Franklin that are left wing, pro-social, they’re supporting Alan Sims.
Leahy: The Indivisible. This is a far left group. There are connections to Soros in that crowd.
Huey: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
Leahy: So they like Alan Simms. Not good. How about Ward two? Who’s your recommendation in Ward two? Five stars?
Huey:Â Okay, so we go for Tina Pierret, five stars, 82.8 percent. There are a couple of good candidates running.
Leahy: You got some four star candidates in that Ward, too. You got Matt Brown and Mike Vaughn.
Huey: Yes. Matt Brown is awesome. I could easily have gone for him. He goes to the Church of the city. He’s got business skills and a servants heart. He seems to be consistent.
He seems to understand free market economics. He’s a really good guy. But Tina is better. And then Mike Vaughn. Mike is pretty good. But he’s also leaning towards taxpayers, subsidizing a low.
Leahy: So that’s why he’s got four stars, not five.
Huey: That’s correct. Yes.
Leahy: This is a theme. Taxpayers subsidizing low cost housing. This has been tried all over the place in affluent suburbs. It never goes well. It’s always a mess. So Ward three.
Huey: So when we’re talking about Ward three.
Leahy: You got Jason Potts with five stars.
Huey: Jason Potts. He’s lived in Franklin for 15 years. Healthcare manager. He wants to run the government like a business. He is very concerned about taxpayer money. He goes to Rolling Hills Community Church. And I tell you, he won’t cave. He’s a good guy. And I feel that we can trust him as standing for freedom.
Leahy: In Ward three, you’ve got a couple of three stars. Samantha Degrasse and Michelle Sutton. Why are they at three and not at five?
Huey:Â Low cost housing advocates.
Leahy: There’s a theme for low cost housing. Nothing says ruining an affluent suburb like subsidizing low cost housing to me.
Huey: Michelle goes to Journey Church, which is a progressive left wing church.
Leahy: So you’re keying in a little bit on where they go to church.
Huey: You know what? In California, people don’t go to church. It’s very rare that we find anybody going to church. Here, everybody goes to church. But there are liberal left wing churches.
Leahy: What?! Left wing churches? I’m shocked. I’m shocked.
Huey: These candidates are doing that. So we’re finding something really different.
Leahy: Last bit. Ward four, you’ve got Patrick Baggett with five stars and then you’ve got Elizabeth Downing Wanczak with one star. That seems pretty clear. What’s the deal there?
Huey: Okay, so Patrick, he understands free market. He understands small government. He understands moving the volunteer sector to help out.
He’s active in the Christian Community Church. He’s a strong fiscal conservative. Elizabeth, she’s a political activist. She’s part of the left wing group in Franklin.
Leahy: Elizabeth Downing Wanczak. She gets one star of the recommendation there from you. Patrick Baggett gets five stars. Thanks so much for that report.
